Over the last 10 years, the voices of Berkeleyans have been drowned out by outside special interest groups and lobbyists, who have infiltrated our neighborhoods, co-opted leadership, deceived voters and divided our communities.

During the last election, optics and gatekeeping politics undermined our opportunity for a significant change of course in a number of districts, without which we would be in a better place than we are now.

We have to do more than simply speak out against injustice. We have to actively change the policies and systemic structures that feed off of inequity, greed and power, undermining every level of decision-making that follows.
